Hey, You Should Play This #8: Mushroom Kingdom Fusion v0.5
Ever wished there were more playable characters in your Mario games? Like, a whole lot more and they were from a bunch of other games? Then Mushroom Kingdom Fusion is for you! If you ever wanted to play Mario as Link, or Mega Man, or Sonic, or even Meta Knight, then this is where it's at. I mean, that alone should have you begging for a download link... well beg no more because there's one after that pesky jump.
Still not convinced this is for you, though? How about over 50 original levels spanning several worlds each with their own theme, and we're not talking fire world, ice world, water land, etc, we're talking cool themes like Mushroom Kingdom (all Mario stuff), Alternate Earth (a platform game version of our own planet), and Adventurer's Domain (am RPG-y themed world). Did I mention every character has there own power-up set? Mario has his usuals, along with some more outlandish ones, like a Mega Man suit, or a Marco from Metal Slug outfit. Link picks up trademark equipment, and Mega Man acquires all kinds of weapons from his past power sets. It's really quite a feat, and you can see the 4 years in development the game has had has paid off in spades. Here watch this video, and if you don't want to at least try it out after seeing it, you should probably go to a doctor. There may be something wrong with you.
There are a few downsides to this game (of course some of it has to be too good to be true). Some characters are just no fun to play on some levels-- like Sonic. Mario's careful platforming levels are not at all suited to the blue blur's trademark speed. The art, since it comes from various sources across various game systems totally clashes hard and makes some levels look ugly as sin, but that can easily be overlooked. The difficulty is a little extreme in most stages too which in a lot of cases makes the game more frustrating than fun-- but the desire to see new content, power-ups, and levels keeps you coming back to face these over the top challenges. A last nitpick would be the game's file size-- it clocks in at nearly half a gig which is absurd for a fan game-- but it's mostly due to the huge amount of content and excellent quality music tracks. The game is kind of a pain to set up too, you have to download three different files (the game itself and two music packs) then extract the two music packs into a directory named Music in the game's home folder. They should of made an installer that would of taken care of all the legwork for you. This is just the v0.5 Beta though, and most, if not all, of these issues could be fixed for the full release. Truly though, I could not recommend this game enough, it really is that awesome!
