Hey, did you forget about this segment... or the fact that other people write for this site (sorry Sam!)? Well, I'm back with what is no doubt one of the most intensely difficult, frustrating, but ultimately very rewarding sequel to I Wanna Be The Guy, titled I Wanna Be The Guy: Gaiden. Much the like original IWBTG, it pulls no punches, plays dirty, and is for some unknown reason, super fun.
The first IWBTG was quite a cult indie hit, for it's hilariously unfair difficulty and solid platforming good-times. I Wanna Be The Guy: Gaiden brings more of this, but with some new moves and features to freshen things up. Now, The Lad (our intrepid hero) is equipped with a Bionic Commando inspired grappling arm and a gun with a charge shot. Of course these new moves certainly don't make the game any easier, but it does slather on another layer of depth to an already pretty sweet game. If you're really good with the grappling hook, you can manage to swing your way past some dangerous paths!

The other glaring change between IWBTG and IWBTG:G is the inclusion of a map screen! Instead of just having one giant world with multiple paths and checkpoints, you've got a map with three levels (with more levels coming sometime, according to the game's creator, Kayin) that bears more than a passing resemblance to Super Mario World. The difference? You can actually get killed on it, in typical IWBTG dirty trick playing fashion.
Basically, if you played video games back in the NES days when games could be soul crushingly hard or just enjoy a solid platformer on the whole, you will probably have fun with I Wanna Be The Guy: Gaiden. It's worth a play just to see how hilariously evil the game can be when it does stuff like have a fish jump out of nowhere and kill you after a particularly difficult jump. It kind of blows that there's only 3 levels, but like I said before, more will be on the way eventually, after Kayin finishes working on his other game, Brave Earth: Prologue. The difficulty is insane enough though, that these 3 levels will last you quite awhile. Actually, this article would of been up sooner, but I wanted to make sure I had at least one level under my belt before typing this up... and that took awhile.
