Yup, they did it. PETA, the real life Team Plasma, has finally went and parodied Pokémon, everyone's favorite monster cockfighting simulator. While it makes more sense then their Super Tanooki whatever game did, it's kind of a leap to protest the abuse of fictional animals. But it's PETA, so I guess expecting it to make sense is kind of a stretch.
In it you just kind of go through a series of Pokémon battles with cutscenes in between trying to get you to feel bad about the treatment of Pokémon, and therefore the treatment of real animals, I guess? The battles are actually super accurate and totally feel like actual Pokémon battles! Along the way you'll meet familiar faces from the Pokémon universe: Professor Juniper, Ghestis, even Ash Ketcham himself, all twisted and evil and representing all the things PETA hates the most. Juniper experiments on animals, Ghestis has started collecting Pokémon furs, and Ash is some sort of Pokémon circus lion tamer guy, I guess. All these characters appear with their original names and designs (mostly) in tact, which makes you wonder if Nintendo will finally sue the pants of these guys yet. They are Pokémon franchise, even threatening legal action against some fan sites who posted pics of the new Pokémon from the original Black and White early (from an illegally obtained ROM image).
Anyway, you can play it if you really want, but I wouldn't recommend it. There's more propaganda than actual gameplay so it's not worth the 10 minutes to play it. Also, I'd be lying if I didn't say the beat up Pokémon designs didn't look kind of badass. You do get 3 prizes from playing it, one a PETA propaganda video (full of what I'm sure is graphic images of animal mistreatment, I dunno I didn't watch it), a desktop wallpaper, and a set of trading cards that look like they'd actually work in the Pokémon TCG. Hey look at that, I linked to the cool prizes so you don't have to play the stupid game!
Here's hoping PETA gets sued!
