Apparently NBC Universal, the company behind the previously geek and tech-centric TV network G4 has decided that they want to rebrand the channel. They say the new network will be inspired by GQ magazine and "for the modern male". Sounds to me like they want to make a channel for douchebags. Do we really need another Spike TV?

Yeah, I know G4 has its fair share of (very valid) criticisms. The programing was just Cheaters and Cops 90% of the time. Some of the hostesses were either completely fake or obnoxious airheads hired solely for their looks and not their tech/nerd knowledge. The channel didn't even seem to really understand their target audience and tended to skew towards bros and the Spike crowd. Still though, it was a channel originally meant for geeks. Nerds. Us.'
It had potential, and it could of been something great. If they right higher-ups would of been in place that actually understood their target demographic, this could have been a great channel (kind of like TechTV that G4 took over for). That potential for greatness is gone though, and is lost to make way for another channel for beer swilling frat bros and other dummies who like shows like 1000 Ways To Die and Manswers.
The channel has taken a lot of hard hits lately so this isn't entirely a surprise. DirecTV dropped it all together. Kevin Pereira left Attack of the Show and they dropped Adam Sessler (one of the most legit dudes in the game journalism industry and had been their since the channel was called ZDTV) from X-Play. At this point it really is no surprise. There is nothing left. So say goodbye to AOTS, X-Play, and Ninja Warrior (Think about that for a second, this channel had the balls to run a show in Japanese with subtitles). It's just another case of the nerds losing to the jocks.
