Hey You Should Play This! is an ongoing feature spotlighting cool and free downloadable indie titles from around the interwebs.
Ever since the emergence of Cave Story indie platformers are a dime a dozen. To really make your game standout amongst the crowd, you have to do something different, insert some interesting new play mechanic the world hasn't seen before. Here Comes Launchman from The Layabouts achieves this in spades! Controlling something like Terry Cavanagh's VVVVVV met Angry Birds, murdered it, and then took its good parts. Launchman is a platform game hero missing the ability to jump-- but to make up for it he does have the ability to launch himself far across stages and different strengths based on how long you hold down the mouse. It's a pretty fun mechanic, and an interesting approach to the platform genre. Launchman can also airbreak stop his jumps and any time, giving you a lot of finesse over his jumps. Along with that you can psychically manipulate weights and objects in order to solve the game's various puzzles as well! The game's only fault lies in its long and repetitious tutorial, but once you make it through that, Here Comes Launchman is great fun! The full version of Launchman is due to release later this year for PC, Mac, and Linux-- expect a full review from us then!
